🤔What makes a good nap?🤔

I often get asked ‘is that amount of nap ok?’ Or ‘what makes a decent nap?’

And we tend to think a decent nap is one which goes on for hours and hours. Or one where they fall asleep fully independently, self settle between sleep cycles and it all happens in their cot.

But in reality, any nap is a decent nap! If they wake up happy and refreshed, they have done all they need to do! If it’s a contact nap, feeding nap, rocking nap, car nap or cot nap, it all counts!

If they do all their naps on you, or all naps are 30 minutes in length, as long as they are happy, it’s a good nap!

If they have done a really short nap and woken up unhappy (maybe due to pain or teeth) then offering them an extra nap later or rescuing the nap in a pram or car may help send them back off.
