It’s a familiar story for so many parents (including myself!) so thought I’d do a post on it. After a day at nursery, your little one seems extra tired… yet bedtime is more challenging. They might cry more, want extra cuddles or resist settling.

Here’s why it happens:

✨ Overstimulation: A day full of new faces, sounds, and activities can leave your baby’s brain buzzing. Even though they’re tired, it’s harder for them to switch off.

✨ Need for connection: After a day away from you, your little one might just need more reassurance and closeness before they can relax and fall asleep.

✨ Changes in routine: Even small shifts in nap length, timing or environment at nursery can make evenings feel unpredictable.

💡 Tips to help:
• Keep bedtime routines consistent — the predictability is comforting after a busy day.
• Offer extra connection within the routine…a little longer cuddle or story can help them feel secure.
• Don’t fight the overtired energy…let them express it safely, then guide them back to calm sleep.
• Adjust expectations…some nights may take a little longer, and that’s ok! When I accepted that the boys would be a bit clingier on nursery days, I felt less frustrated and things felt easier.

Remember that nursery days can be full of growth and stimulation. A harder bedtime doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. It’s completely normal, and with gentle consistency, your little one will learn to settle again. 🌙
