💤Nat’s sleep story #3 💤

Now onto my third born son. Born at the end of 2021 – still in some sort of lockdown but we were in ‘tiers’ so we could still go out and about. I had a newborn, a 20 month old a 3.5 year old.

I actually don’t remember too much about this son’s sleep and I think this is because he did just get dragged around to places with his brothers whilst still keeping an eye on wake windows and his sleep needs. Our routine was more flexible whilst still having a routine 😅

What I do remember is him being admitted to hospital twice as a baby for suspected sepsis. He had to have two lumbar punctures and the A&E nurses asked where his dummy was. None of my boys used a dummy but I felt bad that they were doing blood tests and procedures without being able to pacify him. I found some dummies, gave him one and he took to it instantly! Amazing! Over our few nights in hospital I would lie him down with a dummy and he’d drift off to sleep himself. This was amazing!! Then came the night wakes. Every 20 minutes he would cry, the dummy would go in and he would fall asleep. At this point I panicked about dummy dependency and as soon as he was out of hopsital we removed the dummy and didn’t give it back. He actually didn’t need it and slept better without it!

In general, he’s been quite a good sleeper! Even transitioning to his brother’s room and being in the bottom of a triple bunk bed it all went smoothly.

Most recently, whilst on holiday, he actually told us he was tired and that he wanted a nap! Something none of the others have ever done!

Long may it continue!
