Not all babies need the same amount of sleep and that can be a huge relief (and shock) for parents to hear 💛

Low sleep needs babies are very real. These little ones are alert, curious and often ready to get up and go long before the “average” nap totals say they should be. Trying to force more sleep can sometimes lead to longer settling, more resistance and extra night wakes.

Signs your baby may have lower sleep needs:
✨ Shorter naps but a generally happy, content baby
✨ Longer wake windows than expected for their age
✨ Bedtime battles when put down “too early”
✨ Early mornings that don’t improve with more daytime sleep

What helps instead:
🌙 Following your baby’s cues rather than strict schedules
🌙 Allowing appropriate awake time to build healthy sleep pressure
🌙 Focusing on sleep quality, not just total hours
🌙 Letting go of comparisons — averages are not requirements

There is nothing wrong with your baby, and there is nothing you’re doing wrong. Once sleep expectations match your baby’s biology, nights often become calmer and more predictable.

Out of the thousands of babies I have worked with, I have had one 8 month old on one nap!! Considering my own babies were still on two at 14 months, this 8 month old had an unusual schedule but they were happy and thriving on one nap, so we rolled with it!

If you’re stuck in a cycle of short naps, bedtime struggles or early mornings and wondering “why isn’t this working?”, personalised sleep support can be a game changer.
