😴I want them to sleep anywhere😴

This is a really interesting viewpoint and I totally get it! The ability for your child to sleep anywhere is amazing and I have always longed to be the mum who can say ‘here is a chair and a coat, go and have a nap’ whilst at a party or out and about in the evening on holiday, but 9 times out of 10 it wouldn’t work and if it did, it would be a very short nap leaving them cranky!

So whilst I get the need to be flexible, wanting to do things for ourselves whilst bringing our little ones along with us, we also need to think what is best for them as well.

Sometimes people say, I don’t want them to sleep in the dark as I want them to be able to sleep anywhere. This is perfectly valid and if it works, that’s absolutely fine! But if you are struggling to get them to sleep and stay asleep, darkness really helps. Don’t forget, once they are older there won’t be any need for naps so the darkness in the day won’t be needed!

Similarly people say, I don’t want to use white noise as they will be reliant on it. I get it! It’s not essential at all but it’s a great sleepy time cue blocking out external noises to help aid sleep. White noise can be weaned off over time if preferred.

At the end of the day, if cat naps in the day whilst you ferry them around and have dogs barking and siblings shouting works and their sleep is perfect, there is absolutely no need to change anything!

But if sleep isn’t working, and that is when you come to me, I make suggestions with regards to routine and environment to help your little one sleep better ❤️
