😴 The 2 to 1 Nap Transition 😴

If your little one is suddenly fighting naps, taking forever to fall asleep, or bedtime has become chaos… you might be heading into the 2-to-1 nap transition! 💫

This big change usually happens somewhere between 13–18 months (but every child is different – I have worked with an 8 month old on one nap!). And just like most sleep transitions, it’s messy before it’s smooth.

Here’s what you might notice 👇

💤 Nap 1 starts to get shorter or completely refused
⏰ Nap 2 gets pushed later and clashes with bedtime
🥱 Bedtime battles or taking ages to fall asleep
🌅 Early morning wakes (because total daytime sleep is creeping too high)

If this sounds familiar, it doesn’t mean your little one is ready for one nap right away, it means they’re starting the process. Most babies take a few weeks (sometimes months!) to fully adjust.

🌙 Here’s how to make it easier:
✨ Start by stretching the morning awake window slowly — by 15 minutes every few days.
✨ Offer a short 10–15 minute “bridge” nap in the morning if needed, to make it to the lunchtime nap.
✨ Aim for one big nap around midday (around 12:00–12:30) once they can handle the longer morning stretch.
✨ Bedtime might need to move earlier for a while — totally normal!

This transition can be sketchy, with some 1-nap days and some 2-nap days and that’s okay! You’re not doing anything wrong. Their body clock is just finding a new rhythm. 🕰️

Be patient, stay flexible, and remember: consistency wins over perfection. 💛
