❄️ Colder nights ❄️

I have had a few messages recently from people asking why their baby is waking a lot overnight. When we have started discussing things, it turns out they are still in a babygrow and 1.5 tog summer sleeping bag. Chances are they are a bit cold and that is waking them up. When the temperature drops, it’s important to keep your little one warm without overheating. A few simple tips that I recommend:

👶 Layer smartly: We use a cotton sleepsuit and a sleeping bag (tog rating matched to the room temp). You can always add an extra layer with a vest and these layers can be removed during the night if needed.
🧦 Keep extremities warm: Hands and feet can feel cooler, but don’t worry—they don’t need mittens or hats indoors. We put socks underneath babygrows – it helps!
🌡️ Room check: Ideal sleep temp is 16–20°C (61–68°F).
🚫 No loose blankets: Safer sleep always means a clear crib.

My boys are all different! As I have mentioned previously, my eldest used to get night terrors if he overheated overnight so we purposely dress him in lighter clothes. My 3 year old refuses to wear pyjamas most of the time so he wears underpants only 😅 Whereas my youngest LOVES being cosy and he prefers an extra layer (like a vest under his sleepsuit) and his 3.5 tog sleeping bag.

Every baby is different, so always feel their neck, chest, or back to check if they’re comfortably warm (not sweaty, not chilly).

Sometimes it is a bit of trial and error. If baby wakes a lot one night, add an extra layer or higher tog sleeping bag the next night and see if that helps. Just keep checking on them to make sure they are ok ☺️❤️
