👩Solo Bedtimes – one child 👩
Doing bedtime solo can feel overwhelming — whether you’re parenting alone, your partner works late, or support just isn’t available. But a calm, smooth bedtime is absolutely possible, even with just one pair of hands.
The key is structure, predictability and planning ahead. Babies and toddlers thrive when they know what’s coming next, and a consistent bedtime routine does the heavy lifting for you.
Here are my top tips for a successful solo bedtime:
A wind-down routine that never changes so lights low, nappy, pyjamas, sleeping bag, one or two familiar cues like a book or lullaby. When these steps repeat every night, your child begins to “switch off” before you even reach the cot.
Focus on doing everything in the same order, at the same pace, in the same way. Repetition is security and babies and children thrive on consistency.
Avoid juggling multiple tasks at once. If you need to prep the room, get bottles ready, or set up white noise, do it before you start the routine. When I do solo bedtimes, the bedrooms and bathroom is all set up by 3pm 😅
And remember that needing a moment to pick them up, calm or reset is not a failure. Solo bedtime takes practice for you and your child.
If you’re doing bedtime alone most nights, you’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing an incredible job with what you have. And with consistency, it gets easier… then second nature… then peaceful…and then you may have more children 😅😉
You’ve got this. 🤍
