“My baby didn’t cry all day!” — and why seeing that message can hit harder than you expect 😩

I will never forget the day someone in my baby group messaged, celebrating a whole day without her baby crying.
And instead of feeling happy… I felt like a failure.😭

Because my baby? My baby did cry. And those of you who have read about my eldest’s sleep journey, he cried a lot!!

Here’s the truth we don’t say out loud enough is that babies cry. It’s how they communicate. It doesn’t mean you’ve done something wrong. It doesn’t mean you’re failing. And it definitely doesn’t mean someone else is doing it “better” than you 🤍

Social spaces (even well-meaning ones) can make it feel like there’s a gold standard of parenting we’re all supposed to reach which involves a calm baby, no tears, perfectly regulated days. But that version of parenthood isn’t real for most families.

Some babies cry more.
Some days are harder.

And none of that reflects your worth as a parent.

My boys? At least one of them cries every day 🤣 Granted, it is usually over a toy, but it’s normal!!

If your baby cried today and you responded, cuddled, fed, reassured, stayed, then you did exactly what your baby needed. That’s not failure. That’s parenting.

Let’s normalise the messy days.
Let’s stop measuring ourselves against other people’s highlights.
And let’s remember a loved, supported baby may still cry and that’s ok ❤️
