🍀You are so lucky🍀

For some reason, whenever anyone finds out we have 4 young boys, they always ask if they sleep well. When we say they do, their response is always ‘gosh you’re so lucky!’

For some reason, this response always insults me 😅 Lucky? My children weren’t born good sleepers! They were the ones in the hospital crying when every other baby was fast asleep. They didn’t sleep through from birth or sleep long stretches magically. Once they got out of the newborn sleepy phase, they would always be woken by their older brother(s) and they pretty much had no routine as they were constantly taken on school and nursery runs, swimming and piano lessons. They would all wake a lot in the night. Breastfed back to sleep. Whilst they were little, it was absolutely fine!

But when it stopped being fine, I had to work (very hard!) on the boys’ sleep. I had to support them with the transition from feeding to sleep to independent sleep and teach them how to sleep and it was always around the 4 month mark when the relaxed ‘no routine’, go with the flow mindset stopped working!

Then I had to work on the cot to bed transition. That was rough 😅
Then I had to work on the 4626 requests for the toilet during the night when potty training 🤦🏽‍♀️

The babies who magically sleep through from birth and their parents literally don’t need to do anything to help them? Good for them! But hard work is what made my 4 boys be independent sleepers who sleep through the night. 💪💪

Point of this post is to say, if you have had to work hard on getting your child to sleep, you should be so proud of yourself and should shout it from the rooftops! 99% of families I meet on a day to day basis at baby groups have had to put in effort to help their babies sleep! It’s hard work 😅

I am so proud when my clients see results and end their time with me with happy babies who are great sleepers! Hard work really does pay off! Shout it from the rooftops!
