⏰Consistent times⏰
I get it. We would all love a lie in every now and then but a consistent wake-up time and bedtime are essential for your baby’s health and development for several important reasons:
1. Regulates the internal body clock (Circadian Rhythm)
❤️Babies thrive on routine. A consistent sleep schedule helps their internal clock learn when to be awake and when to sleep. This leads to better sleep quality and easier bedtimes.
2. Improves sleep quality and duration
💪When your baby goes to bed and wakes up at the same times each day, their body begins to expect sleep at those times, making it easier for them to fall asleep and stay asleep longer.
3. Supports growth and brain development
🧠Sleep is essential for your baby’s physical growth and brain development. Regular, high-quality sleep allows their body to release growth hormones and helps their brain process new information.
4. Makes daily life more predictable
🙂Having regular sleep and wake times helps create structure in your baby’s day, making it easier to plan feedings, naps, and activities, which can reduce stress for both the baby and the caregiver.
I’m all for flexibility and I do have clients who message saying they’ve had lie ins, and whilst it’s absolutely fine and there is no anger from me, we do generally find the rest of the day is thrown off either due to the baby resisting the first nap or they can’t get them to sleep before a baby class they always go to. And the next day they set an alarm 😅
If you’re just starting out, even getting close to the same wake-up and bedtime within a 30-minute window each day can make a big difference.
