The other week I posted about getting my youngest (19 months) to sleep and he was snoring but as soon as I crept out of the room, he woke up!
I thought I’d create a post about why this is and to help others know how normal it is.
I constantly have parents say to me, “I’ve just got my baby to sleep, but as soon as I leave… they wake up!” Sound familiar?
This happens because babies cycle into lighter stages of sleep about every 20–40 minutes. If they notice a change (like no longer being in your arms or sensing you’re not nearby), their brain goes “Something’s different!” and they wake up.
The good news? With practice, your baby can learn to connect those sleep cycles more smoothly. Consistent routines, familiar sleep cues and practice settling in their sleep space will help them feel secure enough to drift back to sleep without needing you right there.
You’re not doing anything wrong—it’s biology. 💛 And with gentle consistency, it does get easier.
