🚨 Baby cries… and suddenly we’re in panic mode! Heart racing, mind spinning, we try everything—rocking, bouncing, shushing, singing every lullaby we know… sometimes even considering that midnight motorway drive 🙈
I have received all the panic messages before from clients as well as being there myself with my own boys.
It’s completely natural to want to stop the crying as quickly as possible. But here’s the thing: babies pick up on our energy. When we panic, they can feel it—and it often makes it harder for them to settle.
So what can we do instead?
🌿 Pause and breathe. Even one slow breath can send your body the signal: “It’s okay. My baby is safe. I’ve got this.”
🌿 Ground yourself. Plant your feet, unclench your jaw, and remind yourself that crying is your baby’s way of communicating—not a sign you’re failing.
🌿 Stay steady. Rather than panic-rocking or over-stimulating, choose one soothing response (like gentle rocking, patting, or humming) and keep it calm and consistent.
🌿 Shift the goal. The aim isn’t to stop the crying instantly—it’s to help your baby feel safe and supported while they work through it.
You don’t need a hundred tricks. You are the comfort. Your calm presence is often the most powerful tool you have.
So next time your baby cries, remember: pause, breathe, steady. You’re doing an amazing job!
