Help! My child moves around the cot all night – are they really sleeping? 😴

I get asked this question a lot! You fall asleep having put your baby in one position and you wake up to find them in a totally different position.

If your little one is tossing, turning, or even rolling around in their cot all night, it’s completely normal and yes, they can still be getting restful sleep! Babies and toddlers have lighter sleep cycles than adults, which means movement is often just part of how they naturally sleep.

Some key points to know:
✨ Movement does not mean restless sleep – Babies often shift positions while in deep sleep or transitioning between sleep cycles.
✨ Comfort-seeking – They may move around to find a comfy spot, wiggle their arms or legs, or even hug their blanket or toy.
✨ Safe sleep is still a priority – Make sure the cot is clear of hazards, the mattress is firm, and they’re dressed appropriately for the temperature.
✨ Observe overall sleep quality – Look at how many night wakes they have, how long they sleep in stretches, and how they behave when they wake. If they’re happy and alert during the day, their night movements are likely normal.

💡 Tip: If your little one’s movements are accompanied by frequent night waking or early rising, it may be worth looking at their routines and sleep environment. Just remember that some wriggling is normal and it doesn’t mean they’re not sleeping well! ❤️
