I used to hover over the monitor constantly, watching every wiggle, every eye blink, every shuffle. They would be awake and just lying there.
Part of me wanted to keep an eye on them to make sure they were ok…
Part of me was just waiting to restart the “sleep timer” the second they closed their eyes. 👀😅
When they were next to me, I would do the same. And I used to pick them up and rock/feed/change a nappy because they were awake, so surely they needed me!
But here’s the truth I wish someone had told me sooner:
If your baby is awake but not crying… you don’t need to do anything.
No rushing in.
No resettling.
No restarting the clock.
Some babies lie awake babbling, rolling, or just having a little think before drifting back off and that’s normal. If you didn’t have a monitor, you probably wouldn’t even know they were awake at all!
So if they’re peaceful and content, let them be.
Trust them.
Trust yourself.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is step back and give them the space to settle in their own little way. 💛✨
