✈️ Holiday tips – evenings out✈️
You’re off on holiday and everyone is excited! But then you remember you’re going with a baby who naps, may have a set routine or possibly fights their sleep and suddenly the impending trip feels quite daunting!
We have travelled with the boys when they have been a range of ages from 6 months and have faced challenges such as early morning flights, night flights, sharing rooms, siblings sharing rooms, day naps out and about – the whole lot!
I thought I’d put together my top tips to help you all out! The next tip comes around evenings out on holiday. The mini disco calls and you would rather not be stuck in your hotel room from 7pm because of a sleeping baby!
1. Try and get your child to sleep longer in the day. Either don’t wake them at their usual time or squeeze in an extra nap before heading out for dinner. This will push their bedtime back a bit and mean you have longer to play around with before your baby gets cranky!
2. If your baby is due to go to sleep as you go out for dinner and you can’t keep them awake any longer, do the bedtime routine before heading out – bath, pyjamas and put them down to sleep in the pram. Use a snoozeshade and white noise and walk them to sleep so they can be asleep by the time you sit down for dinner!
3. If they wake up, try and get them back off to sleep with some gentle rocking of the pram or head for a walk if the area is too noisy.
4. They may treat the pram sleep as a nap and wake up. If you can’t get them back to sleep, you may just have a baby joining you at dinner and then do bedtime a bit later! As long as they have had some sleep, their sleep pressure will have been reduced and they should be happier!
But ultimately, holidays should be a time to relax! If routine goes out of the window, it really isn’t the end of the world. Enjoy yourself and get back on top of things when you return!
