🛏️ Pillows 🛏️

Firstly, I will start this post by highlighting that NHS and Lullaby Trust guidelines are that you must not use pillows for babies under the age of 12 months as they are not safe and increase the risk of suffocation if their face gets covered. Under 12 months, your baby just needs a firm, flat surface to sleep on.

However, after 12 months you can introduce a pillow if you want to. It isn’t essential for sleep and in some ways, if your little one is sleeping well there is no need to introduce one! We introduced a pillow around 15 months for each of the boys.

If you decide to introduce a pillow, it’s advised to choose a toddler pillow which is flatter than a normal one. You can buy these in places like ASDA.

Some people put the pillow underneath the sheet so that it doesn’t move around. This is ok but I haven’t tried it personally!

Before introducing a pillow, my boys all slept all over the cot so I thought the pillow would be useless! However since introducing it, they seem to stay on the pillow all night! Maybe it felt more comfortable to them or maybe it signalled to them where in the cot we wanted them to lie! Either way, the pillow transition has always been a success for us 🥰
