How can you get longer naps?

I get it, you’re out for the day and you want your baby to have a nice long restorative nap. They go down easily and then BAM! 37 minutes and they’re wide awake 🤪

It can be tricky, and can take some practice but here are my tips to getting longer naps out and about:

  • 1. Make sure they are comfortable: Ensure the pram is comfortable and cozy for your baby. A soft, supportive insert can make a big difference. Also, make sure your baby is dressed appropriately for the weather, neither too hot nor too cold.

  • 2. Use white noise: Many babies sleep better with soothing sounds. You can use a white noise machine or a white noise app to mimic the sounds of the womb, which can help your baby relax and nap for longer. It also blocks out external noise such as 3 older brothers screaming and shouting to each other 🫣

  • 3. Keep the pram moving: If possible, keep the pram moving gently. The motion can help soothe your baby and encourage longer naps. If you’re able to walk or push the pram in a smooth, rhythmic way, that can help. The key time is around the 35-40 minute mark, as they transition into the next sleep cycle.

  • 4. Consistency: If you’re aiming for naps in the pram, try to be consistent with nap times and routines. Babies thrive on routine, so if they start to associate the pram with nap time, they may settle into it more easily.
